Youth Sustainability Initiative

A call to Youth lead initiatives to align strategies and operations with universal principles on environment and the UN SDGs, and take actions that advance societal goals

Who We Are

At ITIS, our organization’s core mission is to address the critical gaps in climate education, tackle unsustainable business practices, and empower youth to become proactive agents of change in the fight against climate change. Our innovative fellowship program is designed to equip young individuals with the skills and knowledge needed to establish and run sustainable green businesses. These businesses, in turn, actively contribute to reducing CO2 emissions and fostering impactful climate action.

Our rationale is deeply rooted in responding to the pressing needs identified through research, such as the youth demand research conducted by UNESCO. This research reveals a significant gap in climate education, with 90% of youths expressing a demand for a learner-centered, action-oriented, and engaging curriculum. Shockingly, 70% of these young individuals admit to having little to no knowledge about climate change, indicating a critical need for accessible and comprehensive education in this vital area.

By addressing these gaps, our organization not only solves the problem of insufficient climate education but also strives to bridge the awareness divide among youth. Through our fellowship, we aim to empower the younger generation to actively participate in climate change initiatives, fostering a generation of informed, engaged, and environmentally conscious leaders.

Our innovation centers on the belief in teaching individuals to create sustainable change rather than solely providing assistance. The ITIS Fellowship embodies this ethos by empowering 100,000 underprivileged African youths (aged 17-30) globally. Our focus is on fostering green entrepreneurship and equipping these youths with comprehensive knowledge in climate adaptation, mitigation, policy, and justice.

Over the span of 12 weeks, selected fellows immerse themselves in a specialized curriculum covering climate education and entrepreneurship. Our innovative approach ensures accessibility by offering the program in over 100 languages, fostering inclusivity and seamless learning.

The transformative power of our program is vividly seen in the accomplishments of our alumni. Three standout teams—Savvy Girls, WaterSpark, and The Achievers, aged 15-18—harnessed technology to combat diverse climate change impacts. The Achievers developed a tool aiding drought-stricken farmers in soil condition testing, while WaterSpark focused on assessing water quality in flood-affected areas. Savvy Girls created ‘Go Find Me,’ a mobile app enhancing safety for gender-based violence victims amid climate adversity, earning commendation from the Lagos State Commissioner of Education in Nigeria.

Furthermore, our collaboration with Savvy Global Fellowship, boasting a track record of training 10,000+ youths and seeing 5,000+ fellows establish profitable, impactful businesses, augments our reach. This partnership promises a cascading effect, propelling climate entrepreneurship and environmental sustainability to combat poverty. Over the next two years, our goal is to impact 10,000 impoverished youths, assist in launching 5,000+ green businesses, and collectively reduce 3 tons of CO2 emissions.
